Mushroom Steak
I got a comment from somebody wanting me to try out a technique where you turn an oyster mushroom into a steak! So I picked up a large batch of the mushrooms to make this mushroom steak. They are going to be coated and marinated in sauce to taste like steak! If you like this recipe be sure to check out this one too! and this one!

Mushroom Prep
So of course for this recipe we are going to need some large clusters of an oyster mushroom. The first thing I do is get a pan hot on medium heat. While it’s heating for about two minutes I chop the bottoms off the mushrooms and prepare them. I spray the pan with canola oil. Then I place the mushrooms in the pan and use another pan to apply some weight on top of them. Press them for ten or fifteen minutes. Then I remove the mushrooms from the pan and salt and pepper the uncooked side of the shrooms. I also add some steak or grilling seasoning then flip them over and season the other side as well.

Press and Cook
Then I spray the pan again and cook the uncooked side of the mushrooms. Add the weights on top but only keep them on for a few minutes. Now I’m going to make the marinade. I mix a little marmite with some bbq sauce and a touch of liquid smoke. Remove the steaks from the pan and coat them in the sauce! Both sides! Once all coated I throw them into the fridge to chill and marinate for two hours.

Taste Test
I take them out of the fridge and let them sit and warm up a pinch. Then into the oven at 400ºF for forty to forty five minutes. Flip them about halfway through cooking and add a little more sauce to them. Once they are done I take them out and let them sit for about five minutes. Then I slice them up. I gave it a taste and it is unbelievable! It is incredible how meaty and chewy the mushrooms became. You have to give this a try! Watch the full video here!
