Making BACON from Banana Peels

Banana Peel Bacon

Today we are going to turn bananas into bacon. We’ll actually be using the banana peels rather than the banana! This banana peel bacon recipe comes from “Eating Trash With Claire”. All you need for this recipe is two organic bananas, soy sauce, maple syrup, brown sugar, garlic powder, liquid smoke, paprika, and msg. Banana Prep

To get started I peel two organic bananas (I got organic bananas so that the peels don’t have any sort of pesticides on them or anything like that). Then I’m going to clean up the peels a bit, I already washed them well. I chop the stems off the top and bottom. Then I use a spoon to scrape out all of the fibers from the peel. Now we need to fry the peels. I drop them into the oil to fry. I want them to get a kind of brown color.

Banana Cook

Once they have a pretty dark brown color I take them out and let them rest on some paper towel. Then we need to flavor the bacon! In a large bowl I add all of the remaining ingredients and whisk them together. When it is completely whisked together I dump the bacon peels into the bowl to toss them in the sauce. Make sure they are nice and evenly coated. Then we want to cook the bacon on a wire rack. I bake them at 375ºf for about five minutes. After five minutes, take them out, turn them over!

Taste Test

I brushed on some of the remaining bacon flavor sauce. Then placed them back into the oven for another minute or two. Then they are done! These are so crispy! It isn’t the best bacon substitute, but it has that crunch! Give this recipe a try! Watch the full video here
