Tiktok Potato Chips

     There’s a trend going around where people are making tiktok  mashed potatoes from potato chips! The results don’t typically look that good to me. So using some of my weird kitchen experience I wanted to see if I can turn that quick mashed potato into an even better one with just a few differences. The Original

     Let’s make the original version first. All we need to do is pour some water into a saucepan with a splash of white vinegar and some salt. Now we add the potato chips to the saucepan, bring it up to a boil, and mix them around until they are nice and soaked. Once it’s soaked through, pour that through a wire mesh strainer. Then mix in your vegan cheese, add some paprika, and there is your instant potato chip mashed potatoes! They aren’t that great! So could I do it better with just a few small tweaks and additions? And could I also make it plant-based?

My Version! 

     I’m going to start with my pot off the heat. I add in most of my potato chips, filling the pot about halfway. Then I add in four cups of unflavored oat milk, and sprinkle over the top four teaspoons of starch, and about a teaspoon of sodium citrate. Now using a spoon I fold this all around into the oat milk. Next I throw it on the heat and bring it up to a simmer. Then turn the heat down and let it simmer again for a few moments. I then pour the mixture through a wire mesh strainer, constantly turning the strainer and shaking it a little bit to make sure that most of the liquid comes out.

 

      We are going to return the mixture to the saucepan. Whisk it very vigorously, breaking them up, mashing them down into mashed potatoes. You can already see how much better this looks from the original, it’s wildly different. Once your potatoes are down to a mashed potato consistency, that is when you can go ahead and add your cheese, so I whisked that in. Then they are done! You can really see how much more dense, and fluffy these are compared to the others!

Taste Test

     The original tiktok mashed potatoes have a lumpy texture, they don’t look great, and the flavor is no good! My potatoes are much better! These taste like real mashed potatoes. They look like real mashed potatoes! They are rich and better by far! This was so easy, and I put it together so quickly! You should totally try to make these potatoes for your family and friends! Ingredients
  

  • 1 bag of potato chips
  • 4 cups unflavored oat milk
  • 4 tsp starch
  • 1 tsp sodium citrate
  • vegan cheese

Instructions
 

  • Add the chips to the pot, then the oat milk, starch and sodium citrate.
  • Fold this all around and mix it.
  • Put it on the heat and bring it to a simmer.
  • Pour the mixture through a strainer, constantly turning the strainer and shaking it.
  • Return the mixture to the saucepan, whisk it vigorously until it is mashed potato consistency. Then add cheese if you want. Enjoy!
