Ube Brownies
Ube, the purple yam. It originates in the Philippines and it is used in a lot of desserts. I’m going to be making purple brownies! I have some frozen ube purple yam but I also picked a different variety of the purple yam, it isn’t ube it is just a white skinned yam. The first thing I do is peel the white skinned yam. Next I steam them for about fifteen to twenty minutes. If you like this recipe be sure to check out this one too! and this one!

Steam and Blend
I chop them up into cubes and make sure I got all the skins off before I steam them. After they have steamed they are very soft and fork tender. Then I take them from the steamer right to the blender or food processor. At this point is when I add my frozen purple yam. I also add a half cup of cocoa powder, and a quarter cup of maple syrup. I give that a good blend! Next I take my nine by nine baking pan and grease it up.

Bake
I add the whole mixture right into the baking pan. It’s a very thick mixture. And it already smells kinda like brownies! I have my oven preheated for 375ºf. I add my pan in and bake for about forty minutes! When they are done they look like regular brownies but slightly purple! They look wonderful for being flourless, gluten free, vegan chocolate ube brownies!

Taste Test!
You could easily fool someone into thinking this was a regular brownie. There are some really unique flavors to it! Maybe add some sugar to make them sweeter! They turned out purplish and awesome! You should totally give this recipe a try! Watch the full video here!
