You Can Make a Fermented VEGAN CHEESE in 20 MINUTES – Flavored Burmese Tofu

Fermented Vegan Cheese

So tofu is commonly made with a soy milk that is coagulated and then pressed into a block that you can cut up, enjoy and flavor! It is very similar to the process of how cheese is made where you coagulate a regular milk. Burmese tofu is a kind of tofu that is made without coagulating, it is made from chickpea flour. It is really easy to make. If you like this recipe, be sure to check out this one too! and this one!

Burmese Tofu

All you do is take a cup of chickpea flour mixed with about a cup of water and some salt. Then you boil another cup and a half of water, turn that onto a low heat, add the chickpea mixture into the boiled water and whisk until it is smooth! You can then pour this mixture into a small dish, refrigerate for an hour, and you have yourself a firm tofu made from chickpea flour! So now we have the burmese tofu and we are going to flavor it cheesy!

Cheese Prep

In a bowl I add a cup of chickpea flour, a cup of cashew milk, I add two blocks or two tablespoons of fermented tofu, half a teaspoon of lactic acid, and about half a teaspoon of salt. Whisk that really well. Then let it rest for about ten minutes. While that rests, we are going to bring a cup and a half of water up to a boil, in a medium saucepan. Pour the mixture in, turn the heat down to a low heat and whisk vigorously for about eight to ten minutes. Once it is smooth and glossing looking, transfer it over to a small dish.

Taste Test

Then it needs an hour of resting in the fridge! When it’s done, it looks amazing! And it slices amazing! It has a slight sharp flavor but overall a very nice cheese taste! The longer you let it sit, the firmer it will get. This would be so good on a sandwich! You have to give this recipe a try! Watch the full video here!
