The BEST Vegan Bacon EVER MADE is BACK

Vegan Bacon Recipe

Today I’ll be teaching you a vegan bacon recipe! There was this vegan bacon from Hooray Foods, who made probably one of the best vegan bacons that you could buy. They sadly went out of business, but they released their recipe! I am going to tweak their recipe, just a little bit because there’s a few things I want to add to up the flavor. Let’s get going! If you like this recipe be sure to check out this one too! and this one!

Bacon Flavoring

To start off I have two bowls and I’m adding a half cup of rice flour to each, a half cup of tapioca starch in each, and a half cup of melted coconut oil. Next I whisk these together to make a kind of paste. Now we need two cups, for our flavoring. One of the cups is going to have three quarters of a cup of hot water and the other is going to have three quarters of a cup of beet juice. Then I put the beet juice cup in the microwave.

Once it is warm, in both cups I add a tablespoon of mushroom seasoning, a half tablespoon of liquid smoke, a tablespoon of maple syrup, a shake of garlic powder, about an eighth of a teaspoon of smoked paprika, a teaspoon of salt, and a pinch of black pepper. Now we bring back our flour bowls from earlier, add the beet cup to one bowl, and the brown mixture into the other. I am preheating my oven for 350ºf. While that heats, I pour the red mixture into a squeeze bottle. Then I grease up a baking sheet with some coconut oil.

Forming The Bacon

Once it is oiled up I take about two cups of the mixture and evenly spread it around on the sheet. I make lines and dots in it with the red in the squeeze bottle. Then I use a butter knife to pull through the dots, which creates the marbling effect. This is going into the oven now for five to seven minutes until the sheet is bubbling. When it is done, I take it out of the oven and slice it down the middle, then into bacon slices! As I slice them, I wrap them up in parchment paper so that we can freeze them.

Taste Time

You want them to be fully or almost fully frozen before you cook them, so they firm up. I toss a pan on the stove, on the heat and add the bacon to the pan. I continually turn them over until they crisp up. Once they are all cooked I let them rest on a wire rack. This tastes like bacon! It’s really good even on its own. It has a great bite, crisp and crunch to it. But it also has some of that chewy bacon feel. The thicker slices of bacon taste more like real bacon, it has some of that fatty, soft feel! I totally prefer how the thicker slices came out. Give this awesome vegan bacon recipe a try! Watch the full video here!
