What the HECK is Seitan Protein and WHY you SHOULD Eat MORE of it!

Seitan Protein Recipe

Seitan is gluten meat and gluten is the protein from wheat, making it mostly protein. It is incredibly easy to make, you just need some gluten flour and some flavoring but you can even find prepared seitan at grocery stores under loads of different names. The possibilities are endless on what you could make with this, any sort of meat replacement really. Today we are going to make a simple gluten recipe with gluten flour. If you like this recipe, check out this one too! and this one!

Making The Seitan

We are going to start by adding about a cup of gluten flour and a cup of vegetable broth to a bowl. Mix that together until you have a ball of dough. Once it is dough like, I start stretching and flattening it out. I then break it into small chunks and toss it into a frying pan with a little olive oil. Fry these for just a little while on a low heat. Once they seem to have thickened I add in another cup of vegetable broth and bring it to a simmer for thirty minutes. This dinner is going to come out phenomenal.

Sauce Time

The chunks are done boiling so I toss them into a bowl. Then in that same saucepan I add in some olive oil, some onion, salt and pepper, and cook those for just a moment before I toss the chunks back in. I want the chunks to brown just a little bit more before I’m seasoning and adding my sauce. Which is just going to start with a small pinch of salt, some more black pepper, then I make sure I cover it all in my Not Steak Sauce. Then I add about a tablespoon of liquid aminos along with your favorite chili sauce or chili crisp.

Taste Test!

I mix that all together well, take it off the heat and allow this to kind of suck in all the flavors. These are going to be turned into lettuce wraps. I add the gluten to a bowl and cover it with a little sesame seeds, mix it up. Then spoon them onto the romaine leaves, top with some crunchy crispy garlic if you want. And boom! These are awesome. They’re super healthy, super filling, super cheap and really good! This tastes like a pork or chicken lettuce wrap! It has a nice chewy/meaty consistency. And the asian style flavor is so good. You should totally give it a try! Watch the full video here!
