The UNTHINKABLE BURGER is finally here… And its vegan

Did you know that you could make a smash burger out of a vegan hotdog? Follow along to find out how! Will I have to add something to it to make it stay together? Let’s see! If you like this recipe, be sure to check out this one too! and this one!

Vegan Smash Burger

The best way to make the hotdog texture turn into burger texture is to throw them in a food processor. So I toss in three (already pre-seasoned) hotdogs, blend them up until it’s a nice chunky texture. The mixture sticks together well. Then I toss a pan on a medium/high heat, add a little olive oil in and let it get hot. Toss in a ball of the mixture and with some parchment overtop, give it a smash. Now let them cook down for a few minutes.

First Try

I add a slice of vegan cheese to the burger and some water to the pan then cover it up. Now allow it to steam for a few moments. Once the cheese is melty I take it off the heat and give it a try! It stayed together great. It tastes like a super juicy awesome smash burger! But it could be a pinch better, so let’s give it another try.

Giving Another Go

Now I believe they just need to be ground up more finely. I’m also going to make a burger sauce for them! In a bowl I add a decent amount of vegan mayonnaise, some yellow mustard, a little bit of relish, and some of my Not Steak Sauce! Now give that all a good stir.

Taco Smash Burger?

I’d also like to recreate the smash burger taco that I keep seeing everywhere. All we do is take a small tortilla, spread on some of the hotdog mixture. Add some oil into a pan and press on the hotdog side down. Then cook it for a few minutes, give it a flip, and add a slice of vegan cheese overtop. I top this with some pickled jalapenos, some of the burger sauce, and some fresh cilantro (I meant to toss on some onions too but forgot). This is really good! Now I see why everyone was making it!

Burger Time

Back to our smash burger. I chop up a bit of a red onion and toss it into the hot pan. Then add the hotdog patties overtop the onions and smash. Smash them into the onions. Once they’ve cooked a little, flip them over, add the cheese, and steam it. Now I add just a little oil in a non-stick pan to toast up the buns.

Time to plate our burgers! Now I place my onion burger first, then a regular smash burger second, and add some of the burger sauce. It looks awesome! This is a very juicy vegan smash burger! It’s salty, smokey and savory. It has a great meaty, dense, burger bite to it. This is just as good as an Impossible burger or the Beyond burger! Then the burger sauce is a little sweet, and so good!
