Making Lewis Hamilton’s Favorite Dish Healthier for him

As I’ve lost weight and have been getting more into health I’ve been reading about athletes’ diets. Lewis Hamilton is a professional race car driver, to do this you have to be incredibly lean. He stays very fit and in 2017 he switched to an entirely plant-based diet. I researched some of the meals he eats and found out that he loves vegan curries but tries to stay away from them because they are too fattening.  I had a thought, what if I could make a low fat, super high protein curry? Let’s do it. If you like this recipe be sure to check out this one too! and this one!

     Prep Our Veggies

I chop one whole sweet onion then about a one inch cube of ginger. I minced the ginger very fine. Then I slice and mince two serrano peppers (you can use however many you want). Over on the stove I get a large skillet over a low heat and a tablespoon of olive oil. Once the olive oil is hot and simmering we add the onion, ginger, and peppers. Let simmer until it’s translucent. I now mince up a whole head of garlic (again you can use as much as you like). Add the garlic to the skillet.

Mixing The Spices

In a small bowl I add two teaspoons of cumin, one teaspoon of curry powder, one teaspoon of ground turmeric, one teaspoon of sweet paprika, and one teaspoon of garam masala. I add the spices to the skillet and mix them in. Now to add our sauce, I used about eight ounces of tomato sauce. Add this to the skillet and mix it in as well. Keep the heat low and continue mixing.

Tofu Time

I cube up a block of super firm tofu and toss it in a bowl. I add about half of the juice from a lime and some salt. Add this into the air fryer or on a baking pan in the oven. I cooked them for fifteen minutes at 380ºf. While that is cooking I add some rice into the rice cooker, wash it, then add in about half of a teaspoon of fennel seeds. Now allow them to cook.

Making The Cream

To make our cream I decided to use silken tofu. I add my silken tofu into a bowl along with one teaspoon of agave, a squeeze of half of a lime, and a tablespoon of olive oil. Blend this all together! This is incredibly smooth so I give it a taste and see if I need to add anything else, I added another squeeze of lime to mine and some water.

     Finishing Touches

Time to add about half of a cup of peas to the curry sauce (or any veggie you prefer). I add in the tofu and slowly fold it into the paste. Add the cream and stir! This is an amazing, creamy, vegan curry and there’s almost no saturated fat! So finally, to plate this I get a scoop of rice, add the curry, then top it with a bit of cilantro. It looks phenomenal. This is a high protein curry! All the awesome flavors are here! So creamy, and protein packed! This tastes incredible, you have to give it a try! Watch the full video here!
